The silver clay courses are taken by Kirsty Thomason, a qualified level 2 tutor here at 'The silver zebra studio' set in the heart of the Cheshire countryside.

This workshop is suitable for novices as well as those more familiar with working with Art Clay Silver, we will introduce you to the basics of handling the clay, shaping, texturising & stone setting etc. Also included is the finishing aspects of Art Clay Silver enabling a professional result. You will also be using syringe art clay which is very usefull for filling in mistakes and hiding joins in your work ..if you have any! The course is very indepth but fun! and Kirsty is an abundance of knowledge on the subject.The Cost of this workshop is £75.00 which includes all materials & componants to make 3 pieces of Jewellery and the use of all tools. Create your very own customised rings!
This workshop teaches you how to make two different ring styles. You will learn how to design, create and finish your rings to a high standard. You will learn how to set a stone, measure for the perfect fit! polish & add texture or syringe patterns. This workshop is suitable for those with some experience of metals clay or for those wanting to jump into the deep end. The cost includes 20 g of clay and full use of tools as required.
ART CLAY SILVER - Mould casting & impressions £110 OCT 2nd 10am-5pm inc lunch/materials
Learn how to make jewellery from your own moulds! You will make several jewellery items on the day to take home.This day will get you started with Art Clay Silver, you can attend even if you have no previous knowledge of the material.Moulds can be used for creating replicas of existing items, 3D, shapes, making your own texture sheets, or even capturing textures of nature.
In this class you'll learn how to make your own moulds, and how to capture the mould in silver clay. Basic metal clay techniques will be discussed and demonstrated as well as the various moulding compounds available. All tools will be provided along with moulding compound and 20grms of silver clay. Remember! to bring with you any interesting textures and shapes to make moulds from: old buttons, sea shells, nuts, fork handles, old jewellery, stones,bark - anything with an interesting texture or shape.
CHAINE MAILLE & MIXED MEDIA CHARMS OCT 11th £140inc all materials & lunch
Make your own chain maille bracelet inc clasp, from handmade sterling silver jumprings & your own charms! This course is designed to teach a way of mixing sterling silver and fine silver together, you will make your own Chain Maille bracelet from handmade Jumprings. You will then make charms to have on your bracelet. These charms can be made from polymer clay, resin, silver clay, or a combination of all, the choice is yours.
The course includes the use of all tools, silver clay, polymer clay, resin. This course is open to anyone, no previous experience of any of the skills are necessary!
All Courses are taught by a Fully qualified Level 2 Art Clay Senior Instructor.

Course caters to both the complete beginner & improvers.Students will learn many skills & will be able to use these in many different ways to create their own professional designs at home after completing this course.

DAY 1- Introduction to jewellery design, materials & various methods we will be carrying out during the week. Designing & creating fused glass cabochons. Learning about jewellery equipment, machinery, tools & safety. Information on where to purchase the correct tools & professional jewellery componants.
DAY 2- Basic silversmithing introduction- creating a pendant & pair of earrings to your own design. Learn to make your own contemporary ear wires, clasps & jumprings.
DAY 3- Wire weaving & wrapping using beads, glass componants and other materials. Making polished & lustered polymer clay beads, cane and pendants. You will create a choker style necklace, earrings and cuff bracelet.
DAY 4- Basic silver art clay, creating a pendant & earrings. Stone setting & syringe work. How to fire silver clay at home & advice on tools etc.
DAY 5- Silversmithing findings & how to cut costs! & putting together all the jewellery elements made from the weeks course. We will also have a Q & A session in the afternoon on any jewellery related problems you may have & want help with.
POLYMER CLAY [sculpey-fimo] JEWELLERY, BEADS & BOWL WORKSHOP DAY - AUGUST 1st £85 inc all materials & lunch!
This course is suitable for total beginners or for those who have some experience and want to learn or improve on new techniques. It is one of the most versatile mediums about today with high quality designs being produced by artists all over the world. It can be used in conjunction with traditional materials such as silver clay and glass or incorporated with fibres, ceramics, or wood. It is quick and easy to learn the basics but can take a lifetime to explore the possibilities of this colourful-and economical-material. This workshop will give you skills in using this medium as well as projects to complete and take home on the day: Trinket or soap dish, earrings, pendant set & keyring. You will also make and complete a full cane to your own design which you can then take home and use as you wish. This medium only needs to be fired in a conventional oven for 30mins and tool costs are very reasonable making this a v.easy hobby to take up.

"Silversmithing for Beginners" Class dates: July 26th [only 2 places left] Sept 19th Oct 31st 10am - 4.30pm £120 includes all materials, refreshments and lunch!
This course offers a fantastic & indepth but fun! introduction to the basic techniques of jewellery making using traditional Silversmithing methods. Cutting using snips & saw, forming using the doming block, planishing, drilling, soldering, filing and polishing are just some of the techniques that will all be used to produce several pieces of unique & contemporary silver jewellery, ready for you to wear! You will also have the chance to make a bail on this course which will add those personal touches to your pendant design. See samples of students work on the class & workshop page!
During the course you will create a pair of earrings and a domed pendant using 925 silver in sheet and wire form. Additional pieces of jewellery can be made, time permitting. Please note that you will be able to work on copper or brass in the morning to perfect your silver design before moving onto your sterling silver sheet. These too can be taken home with your finished silver jewellery!

Here you will learn how to make your own individual & unique ear wires, various jump rings, tags & findings etc, showing how you can reduce your costs by making your own! We will also cover soldering on this course. This is suited to those already making jewellery or even complete beginners who want to add that individual style to their pendants and charm bracelets etc. This is a great way of making your jewellery individual to you! During the course you will create several findings to take home, 2 pairs of earrings and work on producing a sophisticasted sterling silver linked bracelet with toggle clasp. . .time permitting you can also make a charm for this. A full and informative day to anyone interested in jewellery making!!
'Setting fused glass cabochons into Sterling silver' - Sep 5th 10am - 5pm £120 inc all materials & lunch - you are welcome bring along your own cabochons/stones or we will have a varied & exciting collection to choose from free of charge!
This interesting & fun course is suitable for those students with some basic Silversmithing skills. Students will be taught how to set Glass Cabochons into silver bezel surrounds, to make beautiful & unique pieces of jewellery.
The course will comprise of tuition from experienced jeweller & Silversmith, Anne Reeves, as well as practical projects to put your new skills into action. These skills will also enable you to set semi-precious stone Cabochons using the same basic principals. A varied selection of fused glass cabochons & silver will be provided, allowing budding Silversmiths to really experiment!'
Rings, rings, & more rings! £110 Nov 7th 10am - 5pm inc all materials & lunch.
On this silversmithing ring class you how to make silver rings using traditional Silversmithing techniques including soldering silver. We will show you the Basic skills on finger measuring, ring sizing & ring designing. Students will study several designs using sterling silver in sheet & wire form and will produce at least 2 rings of their own design during the day to complete and polish up to a professional finish ready to take home.

This course will build on skills gained in the beginners course or for those with some silver smithing experience or knowledge, and offers new skills such as soldering, reticulation and granulation & using a rolling mill. During the course students will produce a sterling silver ring to their own design and a bespoke pendant of their own design also. This course will show you many different methods of silversmithing which will be invaluable to anyone making jewellery, or even for those just wanting to make some unique jewellery to take home and show off!
